Inclement Weather and Game Suspension Policy
AYSO Region 286 does not reschedule games due to weather. If coaches choose to independently arrange a makeup game, no Region resources will be provided, including field reservations or referees. Any such game must be organized and conducted solely by the participating coaches.
In limited circumstances, the Region may cancel or postpone games due to severe weather conditions. When this occurs, notifications will be sent via email, GroupMe, phone, text or other official channels. Otherwise, all participants should plan for games to proceed in rain, snow, or shine and ensure players are dressed appropriately.
At times, the City may require cancellation of games on its fields. In such cases, the Region will notify participants as soon as possible.
Referees have the authority to suspend or terminate a game due to misconduct or unsafe conditions, including weather-related concerns. Games may also be canceled at the direction of the City. A game shall be considered complete if at least one half has been played and play is subsequently stopped by the Referee or by the Area.
Lightning Policy
All training sessions and games will be suspended for a minimum of
30 minutes
following any lightning strike within a
10-mile radius
.
The 30-minute delay will reset with each additional lightning strike within that radius.
Players, coaches, parents, and spectators must remain off the fields until a full 30 minutes has passed without a lightning strike within 10 miles.
-
For training sessions or practices, this may result in either a delayed continuation or full cancellation of the session.
-
For CORE games, if the scheduled game time expires during a lightning delay, the game will not be extended and the remaining time will be canceled.
Air Quality Index (AQI)
Consistent with other weather-related considerations, the Region will monitor air quality conditions when the AQI reaches orange or higher and will determine whether CORE games should be canceled.
Coaches are expected to use sound judgment regarding player health during practices:
-
When AQI is in the orange range, coaches should exercise caution and consider modifying or rescheduling practice.
-
When AQI reaches the red range, practices should be canceled or rescheduled.
Participants are encouraged to monitor AQI levels using reliable sources such as weather applications or The Weather Channel app.
Refund Policy Related to Weather
No refunds will be issued for shortened seasons resulting from weather-related events, natural disasters, or any other unforeseen circumstances.
