AYSO EXTRA Program
Competitive Soccer Within the AYSO Philosophy
AYSO EXTRA is a tryout-based competitive soccer program designed for players who are looking for a more challenging and progressive soccer experience while still remaining part of the AYSO family. EXTRA combines higher levels of competition with AYSO’s nationally recognized Six Philosophies, including Everyone Plays®, Positive Coaching, Good Sportsmanship, and Player Development.
Unlike the CORE recreational program, EXTRA teams compete in inter-regional play against other EXTRA teams throughout Area 9R. Depending on the division, teams may travel between communities including Farmington, Layton, Syracuse, Ogden, South Ogden, Roy, Brigham City, and the Ogden Valley area. Teams generally play every team within their division during both the fall and spring seasons.
EXTRA is intended for players who possess the interest, commitment, and ability to compete at a more advanced level while continuing to develop their soccer skills in a structured and positive environment. Although the level of play is more competitive, AYSO EXTRA remains focused on player development, fair play, and creating a positive experience for every athlete.
How the EXTRA Program Works
EXTRA is a tryout-based program. Players must attend official tryouts and be selected to an EXTRA roster before registration fees are charged. Players who are selected will receive an invitation offer after tryouts are completed.
Many players choose to participate in both CORE and EXTRA simultaneously. This allows players to enjoy the community-based recreational experience of CORE while also participating in the higher level competition offered through EXTRA. Players participating in both programs will typically have additional weekly practices and games compared to CORE alone.
EXTRA teams generally play one weekday game per week in addition to team practices. Coaches may also choose to participate in optional tournaments or winter indoor soccer opportunities outside of the standard AYSO season.
